Behind the Sol Collection

My inspiration for the Sol Collection came from all of the beauty, color, and golden light of summer. I wanted to do a collection using the shimmery tones of Mother of Pearl mixed with the brilliant color of Turquoise. Both are such natural beauties in my eyes. They create timeless jewelry. Pieces that can be worn with anything and will be just as beautiful 10 years from now as they are today.

I’ve had a love affair with Turquoise since I was a little girl. My Grandmother gave me one of her beloved Turquoise necklaces when I was young and shortly after that I took a trip to Santa Fe to see all the exquisite American Indian jewelry. Each handmade piece was adorned with turquoise and I’ve loved the stone ever since. I think turquoise brings a little bohemian vibe to any outfit and it’s such a vibrant, fun color to pair with other hues.

Mother of Pearl might just be my all-time favorite stone to design with. I love the iridescent quality it has, and it’s warm ivory color pairs perfectly with everything. I think there’s something magical about stones that have been created in the ocean. It brings life and energy to them and I love wearing pieces that represent this energy.

I take a lot of time to craft a story behind collections that I design. It’s like a muse of sorts. I always focus on a place that inspires me, then think up a story of an amazing woman traveling to that far off location. What she might discover, where she would spend her days, the people she would meet along the way, and what she would want to wear for all of her adventures.

This narrative gives me so much inspiration when designing. It guides every sketch I create, the stones I choose, motifs I draw, and just makes the whole design process unfold like a beautiful story. This is a process that I love with every part of who I am. I put my heart and soul into the creative process and truly approach each collection from a place of love, gratitude, and inspiration. Designing is one of my greatest joys in life.

So, for the Sol Collection, I was inspired by the Sun and all its golden glory. With everything it touches, new life springs forward. In the late-day, it kisses the earth with golden perfection creating that hour of magic we all relish in. And, of course, the Ocean. The colors and mystery behind it, the energy and life teeming underneath the waves, and the calmness that it brings to us as we watch its beautiful shimmery waters.

I dreamed of shapes and designs that would celebrate this natural beauty. The Sun, the Ocean, and the moments when our spirit is full of their awe-inspiring energy. I believe that when we’re connected to the natural world and reminded of the things that set our hearts on fire, we can live in a place of love and light.
